Patients Delaying Care Due to COVID-19

The South Central Regional Medical Center Emergency Department is open 24/7 and their emergency care team is available to meet your healthcare needs whether it is pneumonia, chest pain, a fracture or break, signs and symptoms of a stroke or other medical conditions. According to Jeremy Rogers, D.O., Medical Director of the South Central Emergency Department, “Your health is important to us and conditions such as these cannot be delayed even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Patients who arrive for treatment at the South Central Emergency Department with the symptoms of Coronavirus, are asked to drive around to our COVID-19 triage area. They remain in their car for evaluation and treatment unless further evaluation is needed such as a chest x-ray or other medical tests. We understand the importance of keeping these patients separated from those patients who are seeking urgent medical care,” he said.
“The CDC and the Mississippi State Department of Health have done an excellent job of explaining the need to shelter in place and social distance yourself up to 6 feet to prevent the spread of infection, but it has never been their intention for those with urgent medical conditions to delay care,” he said.
“The health of our community is extremely important to us. By seeking care when you need it, you will improve your likelihood of staying healthy in the future,” Dr. Rogers concluded.
